Spares Day 1 2010, April 25 2010.
Polski SD1 belonging to Keith Adams.

The first SD1 to arrive at Rimmer Brothers for our Spares day is quite a famous vehicle. The unconventional restoration of motoring journalist Keith Adam’s white series one has been closely watched on his website by classic car enthusiasts. Famous for its trip to Poland and back, the car has only recently returned to the British roads, and there are still teething troubles to sort out. However we were very pleased to see it in the Rimmers showroom when we arrived on the Sunday morning, Keith having delivered it a few days previously as he couldn’t attend in person. It created an additional interest for our members for which we thank Keith and wish him well with the few jobs remaining.

A newly restored vehicle that made its debut (in the rain) was Steve Hankers mouth wateringly lovely V8-S. Thoughts go back two years when Gary Moreton did the same with his 3500SE! Steve has pulled out all the stops with this car and it is amazing just how quickly he has transformed it from something that could only really be described as a V8-mess! The rarity of this model was undoubtedly its salvation.
Steve Henderson’s Black beauty turned up early on sporting shiny new paint. This car had its 15 minutes of fame recently when it appeared as DCI Litton’s car in the BBC programme, Ashes to Ashes.

During the morning we all got wet but were very grateful to Mark Elliott’s new club shop line – umbrellas!

Fortunately the rain dried up and we had quite a nice sunny afternoon.
Cars came from the length and breadth of the country, even from across the channel. Oh and the odd Volvo. But not everyone wants to load up their pride and joy with grotty bits, so that’s fine!

A big "thank you" to Bill and Graham Rimmer and all their staff for hosting our spares day once again. A good turn out considering the cost of fuel and the rain. Thanks to all who turned up. Seems to be a popular venue for newly restored cars to make their debut - and get wet! Also half a dozen members turned up with non SD1s to sell their bits.
